The Inaugural Blog

So I figured that, as a newly minted computer science major, it was about time that I started writing my own blog. Not that anyone will read it, I'm not looking to become a phenomenon, but 2009 ended with some major life changes. Graduation, the birth of my lovely daughter, and not long after, the death of my car. I am a West Coast transplant to Minnesota, and the bitter winters are a good fit for my dim memories of growing up in Alberta. I have a wonderful wife, and a baby girl that amazes me every single day.

I am now dealing with the joys of job hunting. A recent promotion at work is all well and good, but I'd rather be working on building software, designing databases, or playing with different operating systems. I committed myself to a life of constant learning and innovating by going into computer science. I joked that my operating systems textbook had dinosaurs on the cover because by the time the class was done, everything we learned would be obsolete. I always wanted to be a writer, and if I end up writing code instead of science fiction novels... well at least it's somewhat close.

When I'm not enjoying time with my family, I am frequently on Xbox Live playing Halo with the Halo 3 Academy Ancient Warriors. Blogs I enjoy include Shtetl-Optimized and Mark Steel's weekly column. I am a huge xkcd fan.
